Mental training works - for everyone!

Mental performance coach Daniel Osen supports elite athletes, coaches, and professionals in high-pressure environments to build resilience and enhance performance. He researches sleep, performance, and the impact of social media in elite sport, combining field experience with scientific insight.

Mental training is about resilience. Resilience means that, as an athlete, you are able to grow—even in the face of adversity. My role as a mental coach is both to support you—and to challenge you.

I’m here to make it easier for you to perform, both on and off the field, because you are not just an athlete—you are also a human being, a student, a sister, a child, a friend, or a colleague.
You are more than your performance, and I will help you see opportunities, alternatives, and your true value.

Author and mental trainer

Daniel Osen, a fervent speaker and author, transitioned from a lengthy military career to studying emergency preparedness and crisis management. Presently, he contributes to the public sector while delving into the realm of privacy studies.

As an author, Daniel has garnered acclaim for disseminating motivational psychology research through articles and podcast appearances. His latest venture is a book titled "Motivation: to continue when you want to give up." Stemming from his deep-rooted interest in motivational psychology, the book serves as a guide, offering insights and strategies for sustaining motivation.

Within its pages, Daniel shares candid anecdotes that underscore the impact of motivation on navigating both major challenges and everyday hurdles. Whether in unconventional professions or leading typical lives, readers gain valuable perspectives on maintaining motivation in the face of adversity.

Motivasjon - å fortsette når du vil gi deg

English title: Motivation - to continue when you want to give up.

Since the very first word of the book was written by hand in 2014, Osen has aimed to demonstrate his broad understanding of motivation theories—drawing from research, studies, literature, inspiring quotes, and stories. But what he believes is the most important element of the book is this: the raw and unfiltered stories of real people. Some live ordinary lives with regular jobs, while others have faced small or significant personal challenges.

Most of us aren't celebrities, wealthy, or part of a royal family. That’s why this book resonates with everyday people—the kind who eat Friday night tacos while watching Farmen, 71° North, or other entertainment shows on TV.

Mental Training

Since 2013, Daniel has had a deep interest in mental training, which began during his time studying sports at upper secondary school in Bergen. Back then, the Training Science textbook had only four pages dedicated to mental training—so he decided to write his own. Like other students, Daniel received a USB stick containing mental training audio tracks from Olympiatoppen. These tracks included exercises on goal setting, visualization, relaxation, and attention training.

At officer school in 2015, subjects like psychology in operational leadership, pedagogy, and military leadership became an eye-opener. How is it that some people manage to function under extreme pressure, with little information and little time—while others don’t?

Daniel has written the thesis "Mental Training in Emergency Professions" at the Norwegian Police University College, completed a two-year mental training program through Olympiatoppen/NTNU, and is now pursuing a PhD in performance psychology. He has been coaching athletes since 2022, with one clear goal:

That athletes learn to enjoy success and withstand adversity. An athlete should become resilient—which means being able to handle the stress they face in their role as an athlete.
